This special 60th Anniversary reissue of Sun Ra's groundbreaking 1962 album "The Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra" features re-mastering by Paul Blakemore and engineering by Paul Cady. Recorded in just one day on October 10, 1961, the sessions included nine musicians, with Ra on piano, Bernard McKinney (trombone, euphonium), Marshall Allen (alto sax, flute), John Gilmore (tenor sax, bass clarinet), Pat Patrick (bass saxophone), Ronnie Boykins (bass), Willie Jones (drums), Leah Ananda (conga), and Ricky Murray (vocals). The album's 11 tracks, such as the Latin-influenced "Bassism," the bluesy "Of Sounds and Something Else," and the experimental "What’s That?," highlight Ra’s innovative early work.
Features:
