Collection 16 – “Sound System” pays homage to the history of hi-fi, particularly in Los Angeles and its surroundings—to Japan’s record bar culture and other influences across Asia, and to the audiophiles obsessed with gear, endlessly refining their setups, sometimes seeming to treat music as secondary to the system it’s played through.

The pieces featured in Sound System are inspired by musicians– namely jazz, as well as the post-war era of musical technology and innovation through brands like Western Electric and figureheads like James Lansing, and simply our imaginations of old heads tinkering with their beloved set up in search of that perfect sound or however they may define it.
